  • DAY1The Golden Circle and the South Coast

The day starts at your accommodation or a pick-up point near Reykjavik. The famous Golden Circle three attractions were first put on the agenda. Thingvellir National Park is an important place in every Icelander's heart. In 930 AD, the people of Iceland established the Parliament here, which is the oldest continuously operating parliament in the world. Thingvellir doesn't just have a great history. Due to its historical, geological and cultural importance, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will see Lake Þingvallavatn, which is home to the Sferra rift, which runs deep between the Eurasian and North American plates. The cliffs of the Great Rift Valley cut right through the national park. Geysirs geothermal active hot spring area is another golden circle scenic spot. The Great Geysir, which is no longer active, gave us the English word geysir to describe this hot spring. The nearby Strokkur hot spring spews spectacular superheated water every five to 10 minutes. A visit to the Gullfoss will end our Golden Circle. Feel the power of the roar of the waterfall through the rugged high valley, with a drop of 32 m in two stages.

Next we drive along the beautiful south coast with beautiful scenery along the way and stop at Seljalandsfoss. Here you have a unique opportunity to experience the power and wonder of nature. Don't just watch these falls from a distance - follow the path, just behind the gracefully falling waterfall. We continue to the scenic Skogafoss. Here, the water rushes over former sea cliffs that stretch for kilometres and marked the coastline long ago. Keep an eye out for rainbows - the incredible splash makes Skogafoss the ideal place to catch a single or double rainbow!

The final stop of the day is Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, home to the legendary Reynisdrangar peak, said to be the site of two trolls who turned to stone when faced with the morning sun! As you stroll along the beach, you'll also see incredible basalt column caves.

After a full day of sightseeing, we head to a country hotel located in the surrounding area of the charming south coast village of Kirkjubaerklaustur. From September to April, your guide will give you special tips on finding the Northern Lights in the area.

  • DAY2Vik- skaftafell - Jokulsarlon

Today we continue along the south coast in the direction of skaftafell and Vatnajokull National Park. Vatnajokull, Iceland's highest peak Hvannadalsnúkur, Skaftafell and Jokulsarlon, as well as many other natural treasures, are located in this 13,600-square-kilometre wilderness reserve. Iceland has three national parks: Thingvellir , Vatnajokull and Snæfellsjokull - and you'll see them all on this trip. We replace the glacier hike with an exciting journey through the Crystal Ice caves of Vatnajokull. Every winter, glacial meltwater freezes into new ice caves that snake through the center of the glacier. See Iceland's huge ice cap from the inside!

In the evening we will rest in comfortable accommodation in this charming seaside town in the southeast region. In winter, you can look for the Northern lights near the hotel.

  • DAY3Eastfjordur - DJÚPIVOGUR - Wilderness Centre

We left the Vatnajokull National Park area, but the amazing scenery continues! We follow a winding road, with the coast on one side and majestic peaks on the other, across the Eastfjordur to Egilsstadir. Located on the banks of the Lagarfljót River, this picturesque town is home to the legend of the Lagarfljót worm. The giant Lagarfljót worm is said to reside in the lake and appears from time to time, and its story is deeply rooted in Icelandic folklore. We stopped in Djúpivogur, a small, remote fishing village. The waves of the North Atlantic wash over the black sand beaches, and abundant birds thrive. Most Icelandic birds live and nest in the area during the summer months. Locals joke that there may be more birds here than people. The population of Djúpivogur is just over 1,100. As a community, they are known for their warm hospitality and strong commitment to ecological issues. Afterwards, we will head to the Interactive History Centre where you can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and horse riding. Nestled between Europe's largest glacier Vatnajokull and Lagarfljót Lake, the Wilderness Centre offers an authentic Icelandic experience.

You can explore exhibits showing life in the rugged highlands. Admission to the museum is free for the duration of your stay. Upon arrival, you will cross an old wooden bridge and step into history with accommodation in charming historic buildings. Enjoy a meal prepared with local ingredients and relax at the hot spring spa after your adventure.

Our accommodation for the evening is located in the picturesque region of Egilsstadir. Look for the northern lights in winter.

  • DAY4Studlagil Canyon - Myvatn - Godafoss - Akureyri

Today is full of stunning northern Iceland highlights. From Egilsstadir, we will travel through wilderness and remote landscapes, and we will start at the Studlagil Canyon, one of the most fascinating basalt formations in the world.

We continue to the Dimmuborgir lava formation known as the "Dark City". Some of these lava forms will tower over us like fairy-tale giants. Dimpogir formed when the top of a huge lava tube collapsed. Although completely natural, certain forms may remind you of certain things. Can you guess which one is called Kirkjan?

We continue our drive around the picturesque Myvatn to Akureyri and stop at the stunning Goðafoss Waterfall, known as the "Waterfall of the Gods". It is about 30 m (98 ft) wide, shaped like a horseshoe, and has a special story from 1000 AD, when pagan idols were thrown into the waterfall as a symbolic act.

As we travel around the beautiful Myvatn and head to Akureyri, you'll see amazing natural wonders, including bubbling mud POTS and unique lava formations. One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Myvatn Natural Baths, also known as the "Blue Lagoon of the North". It is a popular place to relax in an authentic hot spring (optional extra cost).

Enjoy warm geothermal water drawn from a depth of about 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) underground. These waters are rich in minerals, silicates and tiny geothermal organisms that will leave you feeling refreshed. It's a great way to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of northern Iceland.

We will be staying at a country hotel in Akureyri, Iceland's second largest city. The clear skies around Akureyri are perfect for northern lights viewing in winter.

  • DAY5Dalvik whale watching-Siglufjörður

We'll start the day by driving through Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland. A few flights have short stopovers. On your way to the picturesque fishing town of Dalvik, you'll enjoy a stunning view of Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjordur, in good visibility.

A whale-watching cruise from Dalvik will take you through the Eyjafjörður in pursuit of whales, dolphins and other wonderful Marine life. Humpback whales, dolphins and porpoises are commonly seen. Occasionally we can even see seals and blue whales!

We continue along a picturesque road sandwiched between the towering mountains and magnificent fjordurs of Iceland's best ski resorts, taking us around the Tloraskaj Peninsula. We pass through charming villages and hamlets before stopping in Siglufjörður. In the early 20th century, the village was known as the herring fishing capital of the Atlantic. People were taking advantage of the boom, and the town was filled with a Klondike gold rush atmosphere.

Today, the large schools of herring are long gone, but the rich history and character of Sigrufjefze's era are remarkably well preserved. The villages around this peninsula will give you a taste of life in areas of Iceland that seem to be disappearing from the edge of the world.

We continue through farmland with many Icelandic horses to Laugarbakki. That night you will stay at a country hotel in the area. Your guide will help you search for the Northern Lights at night from September to April.

  • DAY6Borgarfjörður - Reykholt - Hraunfossar - Borgarfjörður

Today we focus on the area around Borgarfjorður in western Iceland. The area was voted one of the best destinations by Lonely Planet in 2016. Our first stop is the Grábrók Crater. We hike a short distance to the summit, with a good view of the magnificent view of the lava fields and the scenery that stretches far into the distance.

Your next stop will be very different! We will visit Deildartunguhver hot springs. This gem of the Borga Fjord is the most powerful hot spring in Europe, providing most of the hot water used in the region. We'll also see Hraunfossar, where icy water pours from lava in thousands of streams to create vast and picturesque waterfalls. Continue to a very different waterfall nearby, Barnafoss. The name of this beautiful waterfall means "Children's Waterfall" and your guide will tell you all the legends behind it!

Our final stop today is Reykholt, an important site in Icelandic history, especially during the Middle Ages. We will show you the Snorralaug Spa Pool, named after the 12th / 13th century beginner, lawyer, historian and legendary writer Snorri Sturluson. Stand by the pool where Snorri is said to have bathed and ponder the intertwined threads of Iceland's history.

After a day full of wonders, you will drive through the enchanting countryside of the Borgarfjörður. You will be dropped off at your hotel in Borganes. Chase the Northern Lights overnight during the winter months!

  • DAY7Borgarnes - Snaefellsnes - Reykjavik

Today, our professional Snaefellsnes guide will pick you up at around 8am. You'll spend a full day exploring the magical Mount Snaefellsnes, rugged cliffs, black pebble beaches, seabirds and glacial mountains.

We will take you through the magnificent countryside with stunning mountain and coastal views. A stop in the charming seaside village of Arnarstapi will give you the opportunity to visit the natural Miðgja rock arches, followed by a visit to the 19th century church of Buðakirkja.

For lunch, we will stop at Hellnar Village (food and drinks not included).

Next, we head to Snaefellsnes National Park, where we will have the opportunity to walk through the moss-covered lava landscape and enjoy views of the Snaefellsjokull. The famous novelist Jules Verne wrote about the glacier. He chose this glacier as an entry point into the underworld when he wrote Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Continue to the magnificent black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur, surrounded by grotesquely shaped cliffs. You'll have time to explore the beach and even try the "stone lift" that fishermen use to lift these boulders to declare their strength. This coastline is magnificent, but it's also dangerous. The wreck of the British trawler Epping, wrecked here, is proof of that.

On your way back to Reykjavik, you will travel through legendary landscapes. Your next stop will be Kirkjufell. Many people say this is the most photographed mountain in Iceland, and you can make a judgment on that. In the evening, after a week of wonderful sights and exciting adventures, we will transport you to Reykjavik. We returned to the city around 8:00 p.m. We will transport you to your original pick-up point.
