Stockholm is the capital and largest city of Sweden, with an urban population of 990,000 (end of 2023). It is the political, economic, cultural, transportation center and main port of Sweden. It is also the official palace of the Swedish national government, parliament and royal family. It is a world-famous international metropolis. It is located on the east coast of Sweden, bordering the Baltic Sea and the mouth of Lake Mälaren. It has beautiful scenery and is a famous tourist destination. The urban area is distributed on 14 islands and a peninsula. More than 70 bridges connect these islands, so it enjoys the reputation of "Venice of the North". Stockholm is well preserved due to being spared from the destruction of war. There are more than 100 museums and scenic spots, including history, ethnicity, nature, art and other aspects. Stockholm is also a high-tech city with many universities and developed industry. Stockholm is also the financial center of Sweden, where the headquarters of major Swedish banks are located.
